Every association has a first night, and for NUFA it was 25 April 2025, when the Upper Hall of the Acholi Inn filled to capacity for the inaugural Northern Uganda Film Awards.
It was, by any measure, a gamble — a first-time awards platform in a region that had never had one, built by filmmakers rather than for them. The gamble paid off: a full house, regional media coverage, and enough momentum to make a second edition inevitable.
Looking back from NUFA26 and toward NUFA27, that first night reads less like an event and more like a starting gun.
